First Impressions

Firstly lets back track to last Thursday. Our very first visit into Perth city centre and we found the Visit Scotland Information Centre. Great first impressions.

Well laid out and welcoming to both tourists and locals alike. A friendly greeting as we came through the doors and passed the desk but not too in your face, you know the ones I mean? We make our way by the merchandise (books and maps etc) and find ourselves at the good stuff. FREE information in the form of leaflets, booklets and glossy brochures.

I instantly find myself looking for places that would be great for client location photo shoots or walks to do, just me & my camera. One place I was drawn to was Moncreiffe Hill Wood. A Woodland Trust Scotland site and only a few miles from the house. Result!

My Dude on the other hand has other, less sedate plans. He hands me a selection of things including Land Rover Experience, White Water Rafting ScotlandĀ and a lovely brochure by Visit Scotland entitled The Official Guide to Golf in Scotland- The Home of Golf. This is the one that has kept him quiet since our visit! He is keen to visit some of the local courses and find out what challenges they offer.

We also used the large interactive screen which is easy to navigate to look up other things too.

By now we must have looked like we were just loitering because the nice smiley lady who had welcomed us ten minutes earlier now came to ask us if we needed any help or had we found what we were looking for. I explained to her that we were new to the city and she asked us if we wanted any information about carparks, supermarkets, farmers markets, live music etc. The lady spent a good ten minutes going through directions, places to park for just fifty pence an hour and also touristy things she thought locals should see (I will blog about these as we get around to doing them).

It was also explained to us that there is a folder on the desk at all times that has information about gigs, festivals, shows etc and that it is always worth popping in to have a look when we are in town.

So, all in all TOTALLY impressed by our first trip into the city. We both left feeling less rabbit in the headlights about our new home.

First impressions are SO important. I would like to thank VisitScotland and their friendly, knowledgeable but not pushy staff. We will definitely be back to check the folder out!Scottish Travel Blog, Perth, Scottish Travel Guide

*I didn’t take any photos of the Information Centre. Ones taken from our first walk upon Moncreiffe Hill Wood on Sunday will have to do.*
